Author Lindsay Gibson

Ballet, a timeless and elegant dance form, has long been revered for its technical precision, artistic expression, and emotional depth. While many of us may associate ballet with a sense of refinement and sophistication, few may realize the profound impact it can have on our emotional well-being. Watching ballet can be a powerful tool for emotional release, allowing us to confront and process our feelings in a unique and cathartic way—especially during the holidays.

The Nutcracker captures the spirit of Christmas like no other. This story has a special place in so many hearts, as it very much does in mine. There is something magical in the air during Christmas season...everyone seems to be happier. The Nutcracker is a reminder of all the joy and magic of the holiday season.

Having the opportunity to include this special performance in my upcoming holiday release, The Christmas Coin meant so much to me.

Creating Amelia Collins in The Christmas Coin

People always ask me how do I come up with my heroine? The answer is never simple...but I always try to match her to the overall intention of my storylines...and where I'd like my characters to go.

Meet Amelia: Professional Ballerina

Why a ballerina? Known for their elegance, poise, and strength...Amelia's world as a professional ballerina will test all these characteristics throughout the story. Her character holds a presence to the public eye that exudes an aura of refinement and sophistication, commanding attention and inspiring admiration.

But beneath her delicate exterior lies a complex tapestry of emotions, a depth that can only be matched by her passion—dancing. Therefore, what will she do when her entire career abruptly ends from an injury?

As the heroine, who needs to overcome her past and release some locked up confidence, which up until her injury, was only met on stage, being a ballerina, Amelia does bring a unique set of skills to the table: her discipline, her creativity, and her unwavering dedication to her craft. Which is why I chose that profession for her.

She is a true artist, with a beauty that transcends the physical and speaks directly to the soul...guiding her through her past that spills out when she's forced to make a decision and create a new life. And when she falls in love, with the handsome Ben Walsh, her heart beats with a ferocity that is nothing short of captivating...embodying the very essence of femininity for her character: vulnerability, strength, and a deep, abiding capacity for love...just as she always did on the stage.

As the author, I also wanted to bring the power of dance to my readers...knowing just how much this form of artistic talent can help you release pent up emotions.

The music, costumes, and sets all combine to create an immersive experience that transcends the physical act of movement. As we watch dancers, we are drawn into their world, experiencing their emotions as if they were our own.

Catharsis through Movement: The term "catharsis" refers to the process of purging or purifying the emotions, and ballet provides a unique opportunity for this to occur. Dance form's emphasis on control, precision, and beauty can be a powerful antidote to the chaos and uncertainty of everyday life. As we watch dancers move with grace and precision, we are reminded that even in the midst of turmoil, there is beauty to be found.

The Power of Empathy: Watching ballet is not just about observing movement; it is about connecting with the emotions and experiences of the dancers. As we empathize with their struggles and triumphs, we are reminded that we are not alone in our own emotional journeys. Dancer's form ability to evoke empathy and understanding that can be a powerful tool for emotional release, allowing us to process and release our own emotions in a healthy and constructive way.
